Why

There are now many different models of Cricut made by Provocraft and we are discovering that some machines may not be fully compatible. By knowing at least the model number and a basic "works" or "doesn't work" that helps determine where more effort is needed.
How

On the [[Cricut Commands]] Data Examples section there is the example
Send: 04 12 00 00 00 00
Recv: 06 00 14 00 02 00 22
Use the [[Cricut Communication Specs]] to configure your serial port.
Send the above byte string to your Cricut
Then the Cricut will respond with a line similar to the Recv: bytes above.
Add it to the [[Firmware version]] page.
